Ever wondered what inspires the footwear genius that is Native Craftworks? Well, wonder no longer my friend – we spoke to Danny from Native Craftworks to get some answers…
Where are you at the moment and what are you doing?
At home… Sat in a comfy chair by a roaring log fire.
What was the last piece of music you listened to?
I’m listening to a ‘Fireside’ mix I did a few months ago… Gabor Szabo’s ‘Three King Fishers’ is fading out and the bass of Doris – ‘You’ll never come closer’ is just starting to rumble in.
What was the last item of clothing you picked up?
A lovely rust coloured Vintage Down Jacket by Trailwise… made in Berkeley, USA sometime in the 70’s. Mint condition… great colour… nice fit… super Warm… Perfect for the weather at the moment!
What are you wearing right now?
White t-shirt, Old CP Dk Brown thick jumper, Lee 101z, Rust suede Tracker Boots.
What was the last moment of inspiration you experienced?
A recent visit to the Yorkshire Dales… We stayed with some friends in a house at the foot of Ingleborough (the highest of the 3 peaks). A stunning part of the country… very remote… very wild… very inspiring. The idea for the Dalesman Shoe started there.
If you could be another person from history, who would that be and why?
Difficult question… but i’m going to go for Tom Crean. A polar explorer who was a key part of both Scott and Shackletons Antarctic expeditions. A truly inspirational figure who risked his life on more than one occasion to save others. I love this era of expeditions and adventure… Some of the situations they found themselves in are un-imaginable. Shackletons Endurance expedition has to be one of the most incredible survival stories ever and Crean played a major part in saving the lives of all 28 men. It would have been amazing to have been part of something like that… If you’d like to know more I’d highly recommend Michael Smith’s book – Tom Crean ‘An Unsung Hero’.
What keeps you awake at night?
Not much… I’m a pretty sound sleeper, except when new styles are going in store, when I lie there worrying… will people like them?
How do you relax?
When I’m working I’ve normally got iTunes playing in the background, but a lot of the stuff I’ve got on vinyl isn’t on there, so in the evening, when I get chance, It’s nice to get some proper records out… blow the dust off… stick ‘em on the turntable, sit back and relax.
